Ted passed away on 16 April 2017, not long before his 93rd birthday. 17656 Edward Angus (Ted) Saunders was born on 10 May 1924 in Mitchell, Queensland. He joined the Regular Army at the mature age of 38 on 10 December 1962. Most of Ted’s service was as a storeman Technical with 1st Field Regiment RAA and he was one of only a handful of blokes who served two tours of duty in Vietnam with 10 5th Field Battery – in 1965-66 as a gunner and in 1969-70 as a bombardier. On promotion to sergeant about 1972, he was posted to the Reserve’s 10th Medium Regiment RAA at Geelong, Victoria. Ted retired from the Army on age (55) on 10 May 1979.

Ted was a very easy going, likeable, pleasant soldier with a dry laconic sense of humour. He was very good at his hob in the Q Store and a most loyal member of 105th Battery. Ted was a life subscriber of the Association and we last saw him on ANZAC Day in Brisbane about five years ago. His daughter brought him to the Brisbane March and he joined his mats in a wheelchair for the day, including the river cruise reunion after the March. He had not been well for some time and now at 93 years of age his time has come.

Ted’s final parade was on 24 April, attended by Greg West, Neville Galbraith, Ray Chapman and John Harper form the Associaiton, Greg and Ray both spoke of Ted’s Army service for which the family was most grateful.

Vale Ted Saunders – 105th Battery war veteran, loyal and strong member of the Quartermaster Stores team, a proud Gunner and soldier to the end.
