Reginald John (Reg) Poole passed away on Sunday 19 May 2019. His funeral was held in Berwick, Victoria on 27 may and was followed by a private cremation.

Born on 1 April 1938, Reg did his National Service training with 20 National Service Battalion from October to December 1957. He must have liked service life so much that he enlisted in the ARA on 21 January 1958. He was initially posted to 102 Field Battery and later transferred to 101 Field Battery. Reg deployed to Malaya with 101 Field Battery on 4 October 1959 and served with the Battery during the Malayan Emergency. Reg was a gun number in Delta Troop. He was then attached with the battery to 26 Field Regiment RA from 17 October 1960 until his return home to Australia towards the end of October 1960.

Reg was transferred to the Un-allotted list for a short time before a posting as a Bombardier Instructor at 1st Recruit Training Battalion, Kapooka.

He remained at Kapooka until 1964 when he was posted to 4th Field Regiment at Wacol in Brisbane. The following year he was posted to 2nd Recruit Training Battalion at Puckapunyal where he remained until discharge on 2 February 1967.

Reg was awarded the AASM (Malaya & Thai-Malay): GSM (Malaya); ASM (SE ASIA); ADM; Pinjat Jasa Malaysia Medal; Return from Active Service Badge, and the ACB.
