2791261 Gunner Peter Francis Oakes passed away on 17 April, 2012. Peter was a National Serviceman called up in October, 1968 and served with 4th Field Regiment on the Regiment’s second tour to Vietnam in 1970.

In Vietnam, Peter was a gunner with 106 Battery and was the Battery Captain’s batman/driver. As a legacy of his service in Vietnam, Peter came home with a medical condition that was to haunt him for the restof his life and which played a part in his premature passing.

Peter hailed from the central coast of New South Wales, and after his two years in the Army, became a long and loyal employee of the Pilkington Glass Company.

Peter was a proud gunner and a good soldier; he will be sadly missed by all who knew him and served with him.
