Bill was a West Australian, born in Northam on the 20th December 1939. Bill joined the Army in 1957 and was allocated to anti-aircraft artillery. He served with 110 and 111 Light Anti Aircraft (LAA)  Batteries, 9 LAA Regiment as Sergeant Major Instructor Gunnery (SMIG), 12 LAA Regiment, British Army of the Rhine (BAOR), the School of Artillery, Royal Artillery at Larkhill in the UK and the School of Artillery at North Head.

From July to December 1972, Bill served with the Australian Army Training Team Vietnam (AATTV). He served at MATT1, Van Kiep in Phuoc Tuy Province.  Bill served as the  WO1 Master Gunner at the School of Artillery from December 1976 until retirement in January 1979.

Bill had been living at Aberdeen, north west of Newcastle in retirement.
