Peter William Fleming passed away after suffering seizures and two strokes in three years on Friday 13 October 2023. He is survived by his wife Marueen and two daughters, Naomi and Lisa.

Peter was the eldest of twelve children born and raised in Sydney, and worked as a key cutter prior before, in the footsteps of his grandfather and father, joining the Regular Army in 1962. He completed two tours of Vietnam, the first with 105th Field Battery in 1965/66, the second with 106th Field Battery during which he filled the roles of Gun Number, Signaller, Batman/Driver and Clerk. Peter was a Signaller with Neville Clark’s Observation Party during ‘Operation Coorparoo’.

Peter discharged in 1972 in the rank of Lance-Bombardier, and took on such jobs as barman, telecom linesman and teachers’ aide. In his spare time and into retirement he volunteered with surf lifesaving and was awarded life membership of the Burleigh Heads Mowbray Park Club in recognition of his contribution. He also took charge of the Army Cadets at The Southport School (TSS) until his health declined in 2020.
