Gun History:

This 25 Pounder serial number L/3710 was manufactured by the Royal Ordnance Factory, Dalmuir in 1940 and is mounted on a carriage made by Ruwolt. It is believed the gun was obtained by the Apollo Bay RSL in 1962 when the Australian Department of Supply disposed of excess guns.

The 25 pounder was the standard field gun of the British and Commonwealth Forces during World War II and was used by the Australian Forces in the UK, Middle East, Greece, New Guinea and the islands. The gun also saw action during the Korea War and was again used by Australians during the Malayan Emergency. Introduced in 1940 it was withdrawn from service in 1975. Guns in Australian service were supplied by the UK, Canada and 1527 produced by local manufacturers.

The 25 pounder is seen by many veterans as the gun of World War II.
